Lake District Hotels pick their ‘Charity of the Year 2016’

In November 2015, Lake District Hotels Ltd, a group of seven family owned and run hotels appealed to the general public to nominate a Cumbrian charity, community project or initiative, to become their ‘Charity of the Year 2016’. – News from Lake District Hotels Ltd.

The hotel group received a fantastic response with over 250 entries, with over a quarter of these for the chosen charity Amy’s Care; a community interest group based in Keswick, Ireby and Carlisle which provides social clubs, holidays and specialist care for older adults, mainly aimed at people living with dementia.

Along with submitting a chosen charity, the general public could also send in their reason behind their nomination. Here’s a few that really made Amy’s Care stand out from the crowd;
• “Amy’s Care provides a wonderful friendly, caring and stimulating environment for the elderly, especially those suffering from dementia. They treat each person with respect allowing them to keep their dignity and individuality.”
• “Amy’s Care is a family run venture providing life enrichment for people in the community who otherwise would not get access to the opportunities the rest of us take for granted. Every penny goes to making lives better and smiles bigger.”
• “Amy’s Care are so imaginative and interactive with their clients, they do great things for people living with dementia and help those individuals to lead a creative, fulfilling life, despite everyday difficulties they face. The staff are fantastic.”
• “Fabulous family run, local charity which has gone from strength to strength. Based in North Cumbria Amy’s care enables adult’s within society whom suffer from dementia socialize and participate in various activities. It is an inspiring charity.”

‘We were delighted to hear that we had been chosen by Lake District Hotels as their charity of the year and equally delighted by the comments people had made when voting’ said Rebecca Dooley of Amy’s Care. ‘The support this will offer will enable us to provide more exciting social opportunities to even more local people throughout 2016. It is especially touching that some of the hotels ex- employees are now using the clubs and will benefit from the fundraising directly.’

Dani Hope, Marketing Director for Lake District Hotels, commented, “Every year all seven of our hotels donate prizes for raffles and auctions for different charities and fundraising events, we try to support as many as we can as there are so many deserving causes. This year we are really excited to have a nominated charity and we have some fantastic fundraising ideas, with an aim to raise thousands of pounds.

To kick start our fundraising we are hosting a black tie ‘Kitchen Rivals’ charity dinner at the Lodore Falls Hotel on the 28th January, where we have partnered up with Baines Wilson LLP and Barclays Bank. In June we’ll be holding our popular Royal Ascot Ladies Race Day at the Inn on the Lake in Ullswater, where £10 from each ticket sold, as well as the raffle takings will all go towards Amy’s Care. We have various other ideas to run throughout the year, such as; coffee mornings, a cupcake month and a Reindeer Run, which will start from the Borrowdale Hotel in December.”
