19 March 2014 – Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts and art’otels across the globe are helping to build a brighter future by supporting WWF’s Earth Hour, a spectacular and symbolic lights out event that focuses the world’s attention on our planet, and the need to protect it. ‘Turn me off’ will be kicked off with a global social media stargazing campaign.

Press Release DistributionPPHE Hotel Group – 19/03/2014: Joining forces on March 29, at 8:30pm (local time) to celebrate Earth Hour will be the majority of Park Plaza Hotels and Resorts and art’otels around the world, including the newly opened art’otel amsterdam, 5&33 restaurant, bar and gallery and Venetian cichetti restaurant TOZI in London.
Earth Hour’s unique display of darkness has become a global phenomenon with hundreds of millions of individuals coming together each year. In 2013, a record-breaking 157 countries switched-off for the world’s biggest celebration under the stars.
Last year in the UK alone, over 10 million people and 280 of the country’s most iconic landmarks including the London Eye and Big Ben took part, sending out a united and symbolic message. More than 1,200 businesses such as Sky, Paramount and IKEA also joined forces to ensure hundreds of buildings switched off.
To celebrate Earth Hour 2014, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts and art’otels will be focusing their activities around the theme of stars with the ‘Turn Me Off’ campaign, including a number of events across the hotels worldwide:
• Switching off lighting in regional and corporate offices, hotels and restaurants and bars including any signage at 8.30pm (local time) on 29 March for the entire hour worldwide
• Encouraging guests to participate by switching off their lighting in rooms and joining restaurants for candle-lit dinners and bespoke ‘Switch Off Drink On’ Earth Hour cocktails exclusively created for Earth Hour 2014 across bars in Europe
• A number of Earth Hour themed acoustic events will be held in hotels, restaurants and bars across Europe
• The running of a photography social media competition where followers will be invited to take pictures of starry skies from where they are in the world and share them using #bebrilliant hashtag for a chance to win a ‘star’ stay with one of the Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts or art’otels in Europe

Simon Barlow, president of Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, operator and franchisor of Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts in Asia Pacific added, “We are extremely proud to share that in Asia Pacific, we have pledged 100% participation in Earth Hour from 17 Park Plaza hotels.
